Job description

Title: Contract SAS/SQL Programmer
Client location: Seattle, remote, PST hours
Duration: 9-12 months with possible extension
Start date: as soon as possible

Objectives:

  • Work with existing teams to update existing procedures and scripts to run against new solutions.

  • Evaluate the procedures and scripts for efficiency and deliver accuracy transitioning to new procedures and scripts.

  • Work with teams to help design and be responsible for data migration activities and any data transformation solutions created.

Responsibilities:

  • Understand existing procedures and functions that run in SAS on VMS and update them to process against an SQL database on Windows.

  • Participate in all aspects of transitioning data from older to newer technology including design, development, maintenance, and support; and establish standards and processes that ensure the reliability of data.

  • Maintain functional and technical requirement specifications and document changes to code as needed.

  • Collaborate and coordinate with other IT staff, including Data Migration Analysts, Data Scientists, Business Analysts, Infrastructure, and project managers to process data into new solutions.

  • Maintain project, validation & change control documentation to ensure compliance with Security and Data quality standards.

  • This work is the beginning of a long-term vision and data strategy for the organization. The team must manage this initial change and keep in mind alignment with the end goal, making progress in logical phases.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS Computer Science, Business, or equivalent experience in Data management/integration/analysis.

  • Minimum three (3) years programming in SAS and SQL required.

  • Additional programming experience with R or Python experience a plus.

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience as a technology-focused conversion analyst including data migrations, data conversions, and data transformation.

  • Comprehensive understanding of data mapping, data transformation, and strong knowledge of Data Warehousing concepts.

  • Ability to read and interpret process flow documentation and translate this information into mapping, conversion, or transformation procedures.

  • Proficient in creating diagrams and process flows in Visio or similar software.

  • Capable of supporting solution testing efforts by developing test plans, preparing test environments, performing test execution, and validating test results with metrics/queries.

  • Strong technical problem-solving skills, with an ability to troubleshoot complex issues within complex data sets and share information with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Experience on projects with complex data needs and system-to-system integrations.

  • Experience with software project lifecycles, and ability to apply various development methodologies i.e., Scrum/Agile, Waterfall, etc. to work deliverables.

  • Experience working with databases and familiarity with the HL7 standards preferred.

  • Experience in healthcare, scientific research, and clinical trials preferred.
